 SHLONGMEN

My Shlongmen is the final piece of a project that looked at the line between porn and art, circulation of imagery, misogyny in art, and the role of the artist, the perpetrator, the victim.

I aimed to create a piece of ‘offensive art’ that satirised ‘Not all men!’ and that nod to the idea of stochastic terrorism. As an artist, I don’t know who will be seeing my art - so it is the question of who’s eyes it will hit. Producing and displaying the art is the act of firing the arrows. These arrows are fired towards the spectators - the arrows will hit spectators on different levels, but some arrows will hit directly into the heart of people who are doing something wrong, and those people will know exactly who they are. They won’t be exposed externally, but only to themselves, internally. For the uniform cartoonishly depicted on the 2 6ft MDF face-in-the-hole (and cock-in-the-hole) cutouts, I took the attire of the abusers photographer Terry Richardson and former film producer Harvey Weinstein.
